Crime Wire delves into white collar crime with discussion of the
eCONNECT scandal.
eCONNECT was established in 1997 to develop the usage of simple inexpensive equipment that could be used from homes, offices, cars and public locations and which would enable the consumer to effect secure electronic commerce transactions by either credit cards, ATM cards or value added cards. These transactions were defined as P.E.R.F.E.C.T. transactions in that they would enable the sender to Personally Electronically and Remotely send Financial Electronic Card Transactions. However, on August 11, 2003, eCONNECT CEO Thomas S. Hughes pleaded guilty in federal court to three counts of securities fraud and one count of criminal contempt, for which he was sentenced to eight years in prison. What went on at eCONNECT during those six years that caused Mr. Hughes to end up behind bars?
Host, Dennis Griffin will get answers to that question from a former eCONNECT insider Manny Vavolizza and investor Judy Squires. Dr. Scott Bonn, Professor of Criminology and author of Mass Deception, will also be on hand to provide his expert analysis of white collar crimes.
